Another view of the bulb garden at work. The foliage does not always look so good but the flowers are nice. Posted by Picasa

This one is unique. It is light yellow and is flowering a little later. I perked up when seeing this one and have mapped the location. Posted by Picasa

Found some amaryllis flowering at work. These clumps are doing quite well and this seems to be a fairly common variety. Posted by Picasa

This is a nice red dipladenia that seems to be happy in the greenhouse. People seem to enjoy this red. Much better than "seeing red" like we were last week when the pruning brigade was out front. Posted by Picasa

Here are the flowers of a mock orange that does well in central Florida. They open just after the dogwood trees finish bloming. Posted by Picasa

It has been a tough week with the tree cutters doing their thing. I wish I could take it all in stride like Zeus. Maybe next week will be better -- quieter anyway. Posted by Picasa

Here is a nice coleus that I ran across recently. Gee, I think I have a cutting rooting somewhere. Posted by Picasa

Getting tired of living stuff? How's this for a change? At least I do not have to water it twice a day.  Posted by Picasa

Back to life. Here are some Dieffenbachia babies grown from leaf sections under tissue culture conditions - i.e. some of that crazy lab stuff. They are cute anyway. Posted by Picasa

Another look at the flowers from the "Mr. Tichy" dogwood tree. They are as beautiful as he was. The tree is doing very well and I am sure he is too. Posted by Picasa

I Salute Mr. Tichy

Rick Tichy was a volunteer in my research lab for over 10 years. He became a good friend with whom I had many laughs. He came to us looking for a better tomato and ended up growing dieffenbachia in tubes. He was always interested in Helen's art and Barbara's mosaics and enjoyed them both. Of course he always had a funny way of picking on them.

Rick's favorite response to me after my aimless worrying on any subject was "why worry? It doesn't change anything and only makes you miserable". I use this bit of wisdom on a regular basis.

I went surf fishing yesterday, before hearing of Rick's passing, and caught 45 whiting - Rick must have been there putting them on my hooks. Now I am going to go fertilize and water the "Mr Tichy" dogwood tree (check recent March 2006 blog photo). He does not have to worry about me caring for it - that is for sure. At least he has a good view and can check it with me. For someone who loved tomotoes, Rick was a peachy guy whom I will deeply miss.

Rick always was full of fun and was a snappy dresser, even when fishing. Posted by Picasa
