Rainlily Heaven......

On a whim I drove by the home that has a variety of rainlily I have not seen anywhere else (photo above). The owners were in their yard, a yard full of flowering plants, so I stopped. They thought I was nuts but they loved anyone who liked plants. They let me dig some bulbs (I got 7 beauties) at no charge but they got some 'green' anyway since this was a 3-year-old dream fulfilled. They are going to dig some more bulbs for my next trip by. What a fun stop that was. Gardeners are great.....

So now my rainlily collection includes white, pink, yellow and "purply" the newest addition. There is going to be some hybridization going soon.

For whatever reason, rainlilies really get to me. I love them, and now there is time to play with and study them. There is a man in Indonesia who has unbelieveable hybrids in a vast array of colors. He started with a yellow and a pink species. This could be a case of what 'congruity backcrossing' could achieve. Just maybe we can test this theory................ it will be fun no matter what.

I finally got some bulbs from the rainlily of my dreams. Posted by Picasa

WWWwwiiiillllllllllllllllma..............

Just finished using my tractor with 2 new rear tires and the repaired mower to make the grounds at home look immaculate. Have several hay piles hidden around for winter mulch in case of freezes. Now it is back to hurricane patrol. There must be some truth to news about increased hurricane activity this year. Where is FRED to tell her where to go................

The surf was actually beginning to become fisherman friendly even though we missed the mullet run due to lousy weather all September and early October. Have even heard reports of sand fleas being readily available. Oh well --- it is only work for me since the coast will be messed up for another 2 weeks. Time to take up hunting....
I hope that is the only problem we have to deal with here.

At best, the south Florida ornamental foliage industry will take another beating. They cannot handle any more --- this is the third time this year.

Suppliers of liners up here will be hurting as sales will disappear due to damages in the Miami/Homestead area. There goes the fall corn, tomatoes and pepper crops too. We are all interconnected......

Well back to the weather channel. I am really sick and tired of those people......

Some more Aglaonema leaves. Look now before WILMA blows them away. Oh brother... Posted by Picasa

Damn.................

Damn --- what a week. Jury duty on Tuesday (damn), big tour at work yesterday for a bunch of biotechnologists (damn), today stayed home to meet the repaired mower. It actually came (hot damn) and I got excited and started mowing everything. It was great the as the weather was cloudy and COOL (not cool but comfortable). I took a break and when I came back outside the rear tire on the big tractor was flat (Big Damn). Now I have to stay home (and miss work again = good damn) and meet the tire man (if he shows).

Damn --- 2 tires on the tractor cost more than 4 tires on my pickup. But at least I will be able to do the final fall mowing. The yard will look great and stay that way for the next 5 months.

Damn --- that is nice.

Here is a happy Dieffenbachia hybrid to celebrate my rejection. Posted by Picasa

I was rejected.

Yesterday I sat in on Federal jury pool in Ocala. Out of 32 people I was one of the 24 who were sent home to return no more. The case involved a purchasing agent for the city of Ocala who was suing over his promotion being given to a minority instead. I was happy not to have been on the jury. It was to be 2-3 day trial.

The courtroom was freezing. The Feds must have an unlimited cooling budget. Overall it was a very interesting experience. However, rejection can sometimes be a good thing.

Here are some more Aglaonema leaves. Wonder if they need some plants for the court room. Posted by Picasa

Here are some cheery Aglaonema leaves from one of my babies. Posted by Picasa

They Got Me.

Tomorrow I get to get up early and drive 2 hours so I can sit in federal jury pool beginning at 8:00 am. It is not going to be easy to sit and listen very long. Even our 1 hour faculty meetings are tough to take and there are topics there that interest me. My routine is shot for the day. Do I take a snack, a lunch or what? How do you prepare for something like this?

Gee, I may be sitting on a jury for 6 months. Not good. Real bad in fact. On the other hand it should be interesting and lead to some good stories down the road. Perhaps even a book deal. Hey, now we are talking.!!!

Just in case I get stuck for a few days I am going add a few more foliagae photos so I can have something fun to think about while I sit. Perhaps taking a notebook to outline the procedure is a good idea. Wonder what a good title would be.......

Here are some Homalomena leaves. They may lack variegation, but they are beautiful. Homalomena makes a great interior plant. Posted by Picasa
