A Quiet Monday.................Just a Waiting............

Just wandering around wondering what is going to happen..........

Some of my tissue cultures look really good..........some not so good...........
Have a wait another week to see........

My new Pothos seeds have not yet germinated............wait another 2-3 weeks for them......

Colder weather.........must wait another week for that...........we hope.......

Will our Pothes grant get funded..........more waiting........

The Jatropha grant did not get funded..........wait for next time...........

Got my flat tire for the golf cart fixed........waiting to go home and put it on..........

Can't wait to see Mosaic Mom............as always..........

A Damn Fine Day Today...............

Firstly.....found a mature pothos flower with seeds today......I was lucky there since it was falling apart......so I collected and planted the seeds........this is the first in the world that seeds have been harvested from an irradiated pothos plant.........can't wait to see the babies..........so I figure the day could not get much better............but...........

Secondly.....After an incredibly busy morning writing up a 10 year report of accomplishments (fortunately or unfortunately that didn't take very long) for a department review next spring, I was just hanging around in my office at work and WOW there suddenly appeared little Mindescape (i.e. the KID)…. What a great treat.!!!. Good thing I was working since she was giving the “checking you out look”…..
We had a great visit, she scoped out my research greenhouse and lab and then (after a few hugs) she was gone….. Life happens fast ……….these moments are to be treasured………

Thirdly..... wait a minute…how come she is playing and I am working…..Time to think this through…..

Oh hell with that......besides, I am having a fine day today.............Yes sir a DAMN fine day............

It was Aglaonema weather........
Now it is Broccoli weather.......

Weather Change.....10-18-09 ......COLD..........

Yesterday was magnificant..............first cool day in forever........took advil and went to work............got it all done........mowed, pruned, weeded, cleaned.......it was wonderful.........

Today is frigid...........45 degrees.........windy.........colder than Oregon where it is 55 degrees......it takes forever to get dressed........and then you have to go to bathroom...........it is awful.....so I made another fine postcard for today.........

Oh Yeah.............It will be 85 on Wednesday.........

Dieffenbachia cultivar 'Sparkles'..........

Dieffenbachia 'Sparkles' is one fine cultivar.........I see it around quite a bit now.......Lowes, Home Depot...........etc..........One of my better hybrids.........definitely named correctly..... have to brag a little now and then..........

Even Hotter Today.......so played inside.......

the lab where I made some microscopic photos of Philodendron micans buds that I was planing to put into tissue culture next week.....this was practice......below is a bud on the vine......The bud is the raised area to the right of the line that crosses the stem......the hole to the left of the bud is where an aerial root was removed..
Below is the same bud after I peeled off the outer skin....we call it the eyelid...........it looks a little rough but this was my first attempt.....

Now below is the same bud with the vine or stem material cut away. You can see how the growing point is no longer smooth (see top photo) since I removed the eyelid.....this is ready to be sterilized and put onto tissue culture medium.

So I need more practise but this beats 110 degrees (realfeel) outside.

It is so hot today I decided to play with the blogger settings.......and it was actually easy.............Since I have been doing promotion of some new Pothos, Heartleaf Philodendron and Aglaonema cultivars I have decided to allow comments to things I post............

Had to put this out there for my weather records............don't recall a 109 feel even in July down here...........if you like soup just go outside and take a swallow.....this is day 2 of this stuff.......

No weeds..........No fish.............No Problem..........

Went surf fishing yesterday......wanted to photograph the water..........had plenty of time since there were no fish around.....beautiful day and water though.........it is always enjoyable....catching fish seems to be less of a priority now.......may as well..........
There were some nice rip currents that I photographed..........that could pay off later...........

New Philodendron 'Frilly Philly' goes on Chia Pet

Mosaic Mom has done it again...........combining Philodendron 'Frilly Philly' with a Chia Pet base......Of course she used her wet saw to make a little modification in the Chia Pet base......Now here is a Chia Pet that will not die............a brilliant marketing scheme...........Mosaic Mom has a creative mind that will not stop......hopefully some nurserymen will pick up on this idea.....I will give this masterpiece to a local grower to put in their TPIE booth in January 2009.

Now thats purdy right there.
